Thomas Douglas Woodworth passed peacefully on the afternoon of March 14, 2024 at his residence in the Elrose Lodge with family by his side. He was 94.
Doug was born to Bowman (Bill) Huff and Charlotte (Corrigan) Woodworth in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on January 22, 1930. At this time Bill was a grain buyer and farmed part-time at Clavet. Doug was the only son and became a younger brother to Sarah and Cora.
The family relocated to Naicam in 1936 for Bill’s work and here is where Doug’s formal schooling took place.
In April 1946, Bill and Charlotte bought the Frank and Annie Gee farm located at NW 22-25-14W3 in the Coteau View / Elrose district. With his son, Doug, at his side, the family transitioned to farming and raising cattle full-time.
Following a brief courtship, Doug and Faye Jakins were married on July 14, 1956 and took up residence on the family farm. Here they raised their three children: Mark, Diane and James.
Over the years, Doug was active in the Alexandra Independent Order of Oddfellows #180 of Wiseton. As with most small clubs, he served at all the officer positions. When the Wiseton chapter folded, his membership was transferred to Rosetown. Dad could also be found at the local rink as he enjoyed a good game of hockey and would follow Mark’s team and local Aces’ Hockey Club faithfully.
Doug and Faye retired from active farming to Elrose in 1996. In town, Dad enjoyed coffee outings to Hunt and Graber and later to the Tavern to keep up with local happenings. Doug was infamous for his “short” drives around the block which would end up being all day outings. Dad enjoyed exploring around the country during these drives.
When Doug started to have mobility issues he moved to the Elrose Lodge in March 2019. The family would like to acknowledge the care he received during his time as a resident there.
Doug is survived by his three children: son, Mark (Laurie) Woodworth of Elrose; granddaughter, Hayley (Greg) Park and their children, Collyns, Austin and Brett of Regina; grandson, Graham (Dani) and their children, Bennett and Asher of Saskatoon. Daughter, Diane Woodworth (Dave Renwick) of Elva, Manitoba. Son, James Woodworth and granddaughter, Anna Faye (Cade Balan) of Vancouver. Special Niece, Bev Blythe of Elrose. Doug is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jean McKenzie of Outlook and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was predeceased by Faye, his wife of 66 years, sisters, Sarah Forbes and Cora Kaufhold, and brothers-in-law, John Forbes and Frank Kaufhold.
A Celebration of Life to honour Doug is planned for Tuesday, March 26, 2024, 1:00 PM at the Elrose United Church. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to Huntington Society of Canada, (www.huntingtonsociety.ca), 20 Erb Street W, Suite 801, Waterloo, ON N2L 1T2 or Elrose Health Centre Resident Activity Fund, Box 100, Elrose, SK S0L 0Z0.
