Shanidar Funeral Services takes its name from the Shanidar Cave discovered in northern Iraq in 1957. Found at this site were human skeletal remains dating back 60,000 – 80,000 years along with thousands of flower seeds and pollen. It is believed that these flowers were gathered and brought from a distance to be placed with the deceased. There is evidence suggesting a feast was held at the gravesite and stones within the cave appear to mark the burial sites. These are all indicators of the first funeral ceremonies known to man.
