Beverly Bernice Masse (née Barber) passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018 at the Rosetown & District Health Centre after a long struggle with cancer at the age of 79 years.
Bev was born in Milden SK, the eldest child of Lillian and Clifford Barber of Sovereign. Most of her schooling took place in the Rosetown/Sovereign area where she excelled in many sports including track and field, softball, badminton and curling. Bev went on to attend nursing school in Regina where she played centre on the school basketball team. She was known for being a tough, fierce competitor.
Bev met her husband Lorne of 58 years at a hockey game in 1954. After many dance, movie, baseball and hockey dates, they were married in April of 1959. They moved to Rosetown and were blessed with three children Colleen, Tim and Michael. Bev was always very involved with her children’s activities (mostly sports) and her community. She was well known for her awesome pies, strong opinions and enthusiastic cheering. She was a member of the dance club, Ridpath Ladies, Eastern Star and was a Past Honoured Royal Lady with the Royal Purple.
Bev is survived by her son Tim, wife Tammy and children Austin and Jordan, son Michael, wife Nyree and children Aiden and Mya, Colleen’s children Brett and Breanne, brother Allenby, wife Carson, sister Judy, husband Al as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bev was preceded in death by her husband Lorne, daughter Colleen, mother and father Lil and Cliff Barber and brother Doug Barber.
A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown Elk’s Hall, 816 Highway 4 North, Rosetown. Donations in memory of Beverly may be made to a Minor Sports Association of the donor’s choice.
