Caroline Cordes née Hutnick was born November 2, 1919 to William and Frances Hutnick in Laniwce, SK. one of eight girls and two boys. Carol received her education at Laniwce School near Alvena, SK. After completing school, she moved to British Columbia to pick fruit. During this time she met August. Returning to Saskatoon, they married and made their first home there. They moved to Rosetown to the Cordes homestead and lived there for a number of years before moving to the present day farm on Highway 15 where they raised their four boys. Carol always had a love for family gatherings and a passion for gardening, decorating, antique auctions, dancing and music. In the late 70’s, Carol moved to Saskatoon where she was close to her sisters and brother. Wherever she lived, there was a sister usually within walking distance. In 2011, Carol made the move back to Rosetown where she lived until the middle of July before becoming a long term care resident in Elrose. Carol passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017.
Carol is survived by her three sons Byron Cordes and family Nancy, Colleen and Meagan; Gavin (Laurie) Cordes and family Cory (Tamara) and children Cohen and Graydon, Mike (Cassie) and Angie (Brett); and Kim (Lorie) Cordes and family, Greg (Christa) and children Madison and Jayla, Kendall and Josh (Andrea) and son Dawson; also by Danny’s children Dion Cordes and Monique Cordes; sisters Betty, Vickie and Stella; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Kathy (Phil), Verna and Love; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol was predeceased by her husband August; son Danny; parents William and Frances Hutnick; father-in-law and mother-in-law August and Anna Cordes; sisters, brothers, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary (Peter), Ann (Tony), Helen (Nick), Laura (Ossie), John, Mike, Irene (Les), Viola (Pete), Bob (Jean), Lloyd, Charlie, Donalda (Don, Hank) and Ronald.
A private family service was held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Shanidar Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating. Interment followed at Rosetown Cemetery with Angie Cordes acting as urn bearer.
Donations in memory of Carol may be made to Elrose Health Centre – Auxiliary, P.O. Box 100, Elrose, Sask. S0L 0Z0.
