January 13, 1929 ~ November 28, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Franklyn William Bird passed away peacefully in his wife’s arms after a long battle with cancer at the Kyle Healthcare Center on November 28, 2017.

Frank was predeceased by his parents Bert and Olive (nee Langston) Bird; father and mother-in-law John and Esther Calder; granddaughter Amanda Mary Heyden; and numerous brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years Margaret “Peggy” (nee Calder); sons Benjamin (Diane) and Bert; daughter Lori (George) Spencer; grandsons Darcy (Jenifer), great-grandsons Riley, Connor and Jacob Heyden; Dwayne Heyden; Travis (Brandy), great-granddaughter Rydin Heyden; granddaughters Kaytlin (Jason) Anderson and Korrine (Kris) Heyden; older sister Joyce Swanson; half sister Kathleen (Ken) Casselman; sisters-in-law  Anna Bird, Shirley Calder, May Dam; brothers-in-law Jim Calder, Leonard Calder and Dick Dam; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Frank was born on January 13, 1929. He lived most of his life around the Kyle area, helping various farmers and driving school bus for many years. He was a self-taught mechanic, working at different garages in Kyle. He also was the maintenance man at the old hospital.

Frank loved to dance and that was where he met his lifelong best friend, Margaret “Peggy” Calder. Frank and Peggy were married on October 6, 1955. In March of 1956, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer for the first time. Benjamin was born that fall, Bert was born in April 1961 and Lori was seventh birthday present for Ben in 1963.

There were many trips to visit family that thought the world of him. Frank loved his animals, horses, dogs and cats. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and tinkering in his shed.  He spent the final months of his life at the Healthcare Center in Kyle.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Kyle United Church at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Jim MacNaughton officiating.
