It is with sadness the family of George Lowe announces his passing on August 5, 2018 at the Kyle District Health Centre at the age of 79 years after his third battle, over 25 years, with cancer.
George was born in Tuberose, SK on January 13, 1939. He was the third child of Bill and Ella Lowe. He quickly learned a modest lifestyle, spending his first years growing up in the 9 x 20 foot living quarters of the Matador Elevator. He first attended Leyton School until switching to the ‘big’ school in Kyle. After attending two years of university, he began teaching in Waldeck, SK before moving to Rolling Hills, AB where he would meet the love of his life, Marilyn. He would ultimately earn both a B.A. and a B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. One of the biggest highlights of his life was their honeymoon when they rode on a Harley Davidson motorcycle to the west coast in 1964. They followed this with a 9200 mile marathon to the east coast (and upper United States) in 1965. After teaching in Viking, AB, Delburne, AB, and Mankota, SK, George made the bold transition from teacher to farmer/rancher in Kyle, SK where he would spend the next 42 years working the land and his animals. He did entertain a 5-month teaching comeback in 2003, but happily returned to farming after the completion of the school year. While farming was a particular joy to George, he found true happiness in playing and interacting with his two grandsons Jackson and Jasper and his two granddaughters Isabella and Parnell.
George is survived by his wife Marilyn; son David (Tiffany) and granddaughters Isabella and Parnell; son Mark (Tara) and grandsons Jackson and Jasper; brothers Archie (Lois) Lowe and Donald (Nancy) Lowe and sister Janice (Leonard) Smid as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. George was predeceased by his sister Margery (Erl) Brocklebank.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kyle Elks & Community Hall with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. In accordance with George’s wishes, donations made to the Kyle District Healthcare Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 153, Kyle, SK, S0L 1T0 or to the Town of Kyle - Elks & Community Hall, P.O.
