Gerald (Gerry) H. Olson of Plenty, SK, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2019 at the age of 95 at Royal University Hospital surrounded by love and family.
Gerry was born in Plenty, SK on January 15, 1924 and lived his entire life on the family farm, spending the past 61 years with his beloved and loving wife Dorothy (née Schultz). Gerry’s legacy lives on through his wife, Dorothy, son Ole (Valerie), daughter Sylvia (Tim), sons Arlen and Harley, granddaughters Janelle (Mike) and Elise, grandsons Darcy (Shelly) and Erik (Maggie), and great-grandchildren Sierra, Everett, Landen and Joshua. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as in-laws on Dorothy’s side.
He was predeceased by his father Ole, mother Violet, and siblings Tom (Mary), Viola (Bob), Danny (Katie) and Aileen (Walter).
Gerry was an extraordinary man who accomplished extraordinary things through his honesty and hard work, as well as his respect and fairness toward all those around him. He enriched the lives of everyone he touched. Throughout the entirety of his life, his considerable talents and strong, gentle character were devoted to both family and farm. His love for the land was evident in time spent farming, gardening, cultivating the trees and even this year, harrowing all the fields in spring. To his family and friends, Gerry’s wit, humor, and wealth of knowledge brought life to the past and enriched the present through his stories and anecdotes, often told over a cup of coffee or at work around the farm. His kind nature and endless curiosity, present throughout his life, impressed all who met him.
He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
As per his wishes, there will be no formal service at this time. We are grateful for the compassionate care given to him by the RUH staff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rosetown & District Health Centre Foundation, P.O. Box 653, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0.
