Henrietta HAMMOND Obituary

Henrietta Janet Hammond (Hintze) passed away peacefully on August 1, 2019 at the Elrose Health Centre at the age of 105.  Henrietta was born at the farm home on May 26, 1914, the oldest child of Henry and Harriett (Watt) Hintze.   She attended school in Elrose to the highest level at age 15.  She worked at home caring for her mother then the Elrose Hospital in the 1930's.  In 1940 she married Dick Hammond and they had five children.  Being a farmer's wife and mother she was busy.  She was a great cook.  There was always a meal for anyone who came visiting or came unexpectedly. She was an avid sewer for herself, her family, and later for others that needed an outfit for a special occasion.  She loved gardening and her flowers.   Dick and Henrietta always travelled. At age 65 they started travelling to such places as Hawaii, England, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and many more.  They also wintered in Texas for 20 years.  She loved spending summers at Clearwater Lake from a young girl until 102 years old.

She loved her Tops group, Eastern Star, Seniors Drop Inn playing cards, and was a UCW member for over 75 years.  The United Church has always been an important part of her life.  She was active in curling, shuffling, aqua size, and daily exercises her entire life.

She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years. Her brothers Robert and Ross, and sister Thelma (Harold) Torrance.  In-laws Les (Mae) Hammond, Bill (Helena) Hammond, Fred (Ella) (Helen) Hammond, and son-in-law Jack MacKenzie.

We will all miss her in our lives and for always being there.  She is survived by her children and grandchildren Mary; Alan (Jean), Brad (Karla), Tamara (Craig); Doug (Sheila), Shannon (Arny), Trent (Lisa); Peggy, Heather (Tyson), Tyler (Andra), Shawn; Beverly (Cliff), Jennifer (Ryan), Jeff (Rachelle), Kelly; and 16 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Muriel, and many nieces and nephews.

She loved life and lived a long healthy life.  No flowers please. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elrose United Church, P.O. Box 118, Elrose, SK., S0L 0Z0 or the Elrose Health Center - Auxiliary, P.O. Box 100, Elrose, SK.  S0L  0Z0.
