HYDE

It is with sadness the family of John “Jack” Henry Hyde announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 79 years.

Jack was born in Rosetown with Dr. E.T. Myers spanking his bum on May 28, 1938 to parents Henry and Vera (née Colville) Hyde.  Jack had one sibling, a sister, Kathleen Samson. He received his education in Rosetown leaving out the back door during his grade 12 year and he regretted all his life for not finishing. In 1958, Jack started a 35 year career in the Post Office. That same year, Jack married the love of his life, Dolores Helen Poncelet, a young hairdresser. Besides his career with the Post Office, he started ‘Green Thumb Services’ along with his partner Garry Kidd which he operated for over 20 years. He also owned and operated the ‘Dog ‘N’ Suds’ for two years. Jack and Dolores had three wonderful children, Trevor, Debbie and Darren. Darren passed away when he was 37 from cancer. Losing him was hard for Jack to accept because, “your kids are not supposed to go before you, but who ever said life was fair”.

Jack enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Turtle Lake. He loved fishing, both in summer and winter. He hunted all his life never missing moose hunting for a week, every year for over 40 years. Traveling was not his thing and he hated flying. After his retirement from the Post Office, Jack began working part time for the Wheatland Regional Centre until he fell off of a ladder and broke his back. The hardest thing he did after his retirement was driving to the Gulf Restaurant for afternoon coffee with the boys.

Jack was past president of the Rosetown Horticultural Society, past secretary and president of the Rosetown Wildlife Federation and on the executive of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. He was a member of the Rosetown Kinsmen Club for 20 years and was a K40 until his passing.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Henry and Vera Hyde, his son Darren and his sister Kathleen Samson. He is survived by his wife Dolores Hyde, daughter Debra (Gord) Hyde-Husak, son Trevor (Jill) Hyde, daughter-in-law Hazel Hyde, grandsons Evan Huber and Michael Hyde, granddaughters Megan Hyde and Jessica Hyde brother-in-law Vern Samson and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A Celebration of Jack's life was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosetown Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Jack may be made to STARS, Hangar 21, 2475 Airport Road, Saskatoon, SK. S7L 1M4.
