Kathleen "Kay" Lillian (Hazelwood) MAALERUD

It is with sadness the family of Kathleen "Kay" Lillian Maalerud (née Hazelwood) announce her passing on July 23, 2019 at the Eston Health Centre at the age of 94 years.

Kay married James Edward Maalerud on December 16, 1942 and moved to White Bear, SK where they farmed and raised their family.  After operating the farm, Kay spent several years in Southview Apts. in Kyle before moving to Beechy Community Care Home and more recently Eston Health Centre.

In her early years, Kay enjoyed riding horse, raising cattle, chickens and other farm activities and worked alongside Jim on their grain farm.  She loved gardening and her flowers. Mom cooked and welcomed many friends and neighbours to her home for meals and coffee over the years.

She was predeceased by her niece Viola Yockey, mother Eva Collins (1936), father Albert Hazelwood (1980), step-mother Florence Hazelwood, son Gary (1973), husband Jim (1994), brother John (2012), sister Marion Yockey (2015), several brothers and sisters-in-law Irene Evans (George), Kay Turnbull (George), Margaret Stanek, Scotty Maalerud, Carl Yockey, Hilda Hazelwood and Marjorie Maalerud.

Kay is survived by daughter Elaine Donald (Leonard) of Saskatoon, SK, Linda Trytten (Rodney) of Kyle, SK, Marlene Klassen (Ron) of Outlook, SK and Lee Maalerud of Kyle, SK as well as five grandchildren: Melanie (Boyd) Dyck, April (Terry) Unger, Curtis (Erin) Trytten, David (Emily) Trytten and Holly (Mike) Couture.  She was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.  She is also survived by brothers-in-law Robert Maalerud and Stan Stanek and sister-in-law Evelyn Vindeg.

At Kay’s request, there will be no funeral.  Interment was held with family at Horsebutte Lutheran Church Cemetery.
