Marcia Ann McAVOY

Marcia Ann McAvoy, retail store manager and loving daughter and sister, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at her home in Saskatoon. She was 45 years old.

Marcia was born on November 20, 1972 in Rosetown and raised on the family farm. Her father died six months before her birth and her mother was left to care for her and her nine siblings.

Marcia graduated high school in Rosetown and then attended business college in Saskatoon. In adulthood, Marcia developed her skills and talents in sales and retail. She had an incredible work ethic that benefited various companies and organizations she worked for. In 1999, she started with Carlton Cards where she became manager, eventually entrusted with both the Lawson Heights and Market Mall locations. She had a reputation for being an excellent salesperson, an intuitive organizer and a fair boss. She was tenacious, valued honesty and had a mischievous sense of humour. Her stores were a welcoming place for seniors and mothers with children alike.

Her first priority was her mother to whom she was devoted. Marcia lived with her until her dementia advanced and she was placed in a care home. Nonetheless, Marcia was always attentive to her mother’s comfort and was a reassuring daily presence, often tucking her in at night with a soft refrain of “You Are My Sunshine.”

Marcia had an abundance of really great friends and cherished those relationships. The connections she made with people reflected the wonderful person she was.

Surviving Marcia are her mother Mary Alice McAvoy (neé Mitchell); siblings Mary (Gerry Spicer), Bernard, Teresa (John Bitz), Marilyn, Joe (Sue), Loretta (Dhannok Singh), and Michael (Rossi); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Reginald McAvoy; her sister Rita and brother Mark (Denise).

Funeral Service was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1235 – 12th Street East at Wiggins Avenue, Saskatoon at 2:00 p.m. on Monday May 14 with Mr. Jerome Weiler presiding.
