Phyllis CAVE Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the family of Phyllis Jean Cave (née Martens) announce her sudden passing on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the age of 55 years.

Phyllis was born on August 20, 1962 to parents George and Esther Martens.  Phyllis was raised on the Martens farm on Highway Seven, west of Fiske.

Phyllis attended elementary school at D’Arcy, then middle and high school in Rosetown.  She graduated from ROSCHI in 1980.  After high school graduation, Phyllis headed off to Business College in Saskatoon.  She soon realized the big city was not where this small-town girl wanted to be and she returned home and began her employment at the Royal Bank in Rosetown.

On July 3, 1982, Phyllis married the absolute love of her life, Kerry Cave.  Kerry and Phyllis began their life together on their farm near McGee.  While living there they were blessed with the births of two of their beautiful daughters, Danielle and Jamie.

In 1988, they moved to their acreage between Fiske and McGee.  It was here that they added their third pink bundle of joy, Lindsey.  Family was the most important thing to Phyllis.  Kerry and the girls were her everything.  She loved to watch Danielle and Lindsey at fastball and Jamie play hockey, she would never miss a game!

On their acreage, Phyllis and Kerry spent countless hours building flower beds, pruning, cutting and planting, making their yard one of the most beautiful places in the world for all.  Anyone who had the privilege of visiting was in awe of the beauty.  They hosted Danielle’s wedding to Billy and Jamie’s wedding to Kevin.  No task was ever too big for Phyllis, she would just get it done!  Whether it be organizing, planning or executing family events, reunions or birthdays, everyone was welcome with open arms.

Over the years Phyllis had several different jobs.  She farmed with Kerry, owned the Red Rooster, worked at the Royal and Scotia Banks, was a Purolator Courier and school bus driver.  Phyllis worked as a Travel Agent out of her home when her girls were little and also worked at the Rosetown Hospital and the Wheatbelt Centennial Lodge. Phyllis later found her true passion being part of the Regal Motors family, working as their Finance Manager for the past fifteen and a half years.

While raising three girls and working full-time, this amazing woman still found time to be a very active member in the Fiske, D’Arcy and Rosetown communities.  Phyllis was a member of the Fiske Ladies Club, the D’Arcy Home and School, the Music Festival Committee, the Fiske Figure Skating Club and did books for Administrator Volunteer Resources. She managed the girls’ fastball, volunteered at the rink, organized suppers for the Fiske Sports Days, taught Sunday School and sold purple pansies for Pancreatic Cancer.

Phyllis also had a great love for music and singing.  She enjoyed singing in the Fiske/Herschel choir and also driving into Saskatoon to sing with the Sweet Adelines.

Being an amazing Grandmother was something Phyllis excelled at!  When she spoke of Kale, Kenna and Tyson, you knew her heart was full.  She treasured her time with them whether they were baking, swimming, having sleepovers or just cuddling.  It was always Grandma who knew just what to do to put them at ease when nothing else would work.

In June of 2017, Kerry and Phyllis built their new home in Fiske.  Phyllis was looking forward to living in Fiske and planning for her new yard.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Kerry; daughters Danielle (Billy) Helgason, Jamie (Kevin) Cowell and Lindsey Cave (Dean DeBusschere); grandchildren Kale and Kenna Helgason and Tyson Cowell; parents George and Esther Martens; siblings Pat (Ron) Wade, Bev (Ron) Bors and David (Vicki) Martens; mother-in-law Betty Cave; sisters-in-law Kelly (Ty) Schneider, Kathy Cave (Brian Church) and Kim Gratton as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.  She was predeceased by her father-in-law Ken Cave and brother-in-law Aime Gratton.
