Raymond Joseph ST. GERMAIN

Mr. Raymond Joseph St. Germain beloved husband of Laura St. Germain passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Royal University Hospital on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 surrounded by his family at the age of 77 years.

Ray was born on July 5, 1939 in Batoche, Saskatchewan on the farm to Raoul and Justine (nee Caron) St. Germain. He went to Gabriel School near Batoche and worked for farmers in the area. At the age of 17, he moved to Saskatoon where he started working at the University of Saskatchewan in the Animal Resources Centre where he was employed for 38 years. In 1978 he started working during the winter months at the Granite Curling Club in the bar where he remained for 25 years. Ray met Laura Arcand in 1959, they fell in love and were married on February 4, 1961 in Saskatoon. Ray and Laura were blessed with three children Calvin in 1961, Sharon in 1963 and Darryl in 1964. Ray loved his family more than anything, he was blessed with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who were privileged to call him Grandpa. Ray loved to visit, he always made time to stop and chat and enjoyed the countless friends that he made throughout the years.    

Ray is survived by his devoted wife Laura St. Germain; son Calvin (Jo-Ann) St. Germain and family Rheena McIntyre and children Jordan & Christopher Gamble, Amanda (Ryan) Starosta and children Aselin & Georgia, and Jared St. Germain; daughter Sharon (Randy) Montour and son Darryl St. Germain and family Linda (Jason) Witchekan and children Treyton, Isabella, Mason & Teagan; sister Bernice Hrycuik; sister-in-law Barbara St. Germaine as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Raoul and Justine St. Germain and siblings Leo, Ben (Ali), Roy (Marjorie), Wilfred, Eleanor (Hercules) and Irene (Henry).

The Vigil of Prayer was held on Thursday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Saskatoon Funeral Home, corner of 4th Avenue and 25th Street. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Co-Cathedral on Spadina Crescent. Rite of Committal followed at St. Antoine Cemetery, Batoche, Saskatchewan. Memorial Donations in memory of Ray may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave Unit 26. Saskatoon SK S7K 1V9.
