Shirley Dianne EMPEY

It is with heavy hearts our family announce the sudden passing of Shirley Empey at her home on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the age of 62. 

Shirley was born in Rosetown on October 23, 1957, the sixth of eight siblings.  Of course she received lots of extra attention because she had so many older brothers and sisters.  Shirley grew up in Rosetown, attended school in Rosetown then went on to work in Rosetown.  Not many people spend their whole life in the same place.  Shirley worked at Betts/Stedmans and when they closed the store, she began her career with the Rosetown Co-op.  She worked at the Co-op for 28 years and then Shirley retired in December of 2017.

Since Shirley was not married, she concentrated all her attention on her nieces and nephews.  She always wanted to know what they were doing and she especially wanted a picture for her living room.  As you will hear in the nieces and nephews memories, she was the ‘Pyjama Auntie’.

Shirley was a very active member of the Royal Purple in Rosetown.  We would like to thank all the ladies who gave her rides, she would not have been able to go to Lodge without you.

Shirley was predeceased by her father, Lorne Empey in 1973, her mother June Empey in 2000 and her brother Jim Empey in 2014.

Shirley is survived by her three brothers:  Al (Selma) of Moose Jaw, Art (Linda) of Kindersley and Don of Rosetown; three sisters: Bev (Tony) Koval of Saskatoon, Ev (Ray) Morris of Sovereign and Darlene (Allan) McKenzie of Zealandia; nieces and nephews:  Gail, Emmett, Ronan and Euan Swejda,  Paula (Sheldon) Hanna, Alyssa, Lauren and Serena Macomber, Kim (Mark) Joshua, (Hannah, Jasper), Carter, Colton, Levi, Seth, Anna and Elisabeth Noel, Kristy (Cris), Breez and Cypress Classen, Teri (Darcy) Paris and Sierra Scheidt, John (Tanya) Mathew and Cale Morris, Keith (Jannelle) Cassandra, Laine and Sierra McKenzie, Lee (Angela) McKenzie Chyanne Lewis, Tammie (Blain) Dallas (Braylee) Kori, Kelli McGonigal, Trevor McKenzie, Angie (Trevor) Colt, Jhett and Korbin Cross, Kerri (Kris) Cashton, Easton Sanborn and Aurealia  and Kash Bolianatz, Tyler (Braiden) and Mathew (Breanna) Landry.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life was held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Rosetown United Church with Mr. Jim MacNaughton officiating.  Donations in memory of Shirley may be directed to Elks & Royal Purple Fund for Children, 100-2629 29th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4S 2N9 or the Alex Ositis Foundation, P.O.
