Una Elizabeth (Southam) BARRETT

Una Elizabeth Barrett, age 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the Rose Villa in Rosetown, SK. She was born March 3, 1919 in Rosetown Hospital to Walter and Wilhelmina Southam of Fiske, SK. Educated at Fiske, Creelman schools, and by correspondence at Anerley, Una worked as a nannie and hired domestic for large families of the day and made many lifelong friends. She was also an employee of the Windsor Hotel in Saskatoon. At that time she was dating Elgin Dunham from Creelman, who was in Saskatoon with the Royal Canadian Air Force conducting training flights prior to going overseas to war. On October 29th, 1942 Una married George Henry Barrett, a farmer at Fiske, SK. The Southam and Barrett families were close friends as both had emigrated from England and spent time at Fort Qu’Appelle before relocating to Fiske. September 24th, 1945 a son, Walter Edward (Ted) Barrett was born to Una and George. It was a wonderful, busy time filled with family and lifelong friends. Una was predeceased by husband George on December 15th, 1982. In due course, Una had the good fortune to be re-united with her teenage boyfriend, Elgin Dunham who had lost his wife some years prior. Una and Elgin became soul-mates and had wonderful years visiting one another, enjoying cooking, music and dancing. Elgin passed away in November of 2011. By that time, Una was a resident of the Rose Villa in Rosetown where she remained until her passing. She is survived by her son Ed Barrett of Saskatoon, grandson Anthony Barrett of Prince Albert, granddaughter Andrea Barrett of Singapore and four great grandsons, Karsten, Ashton, Hudson and Phoenix.
