Welcome to the memorial page for

Viola Eileen (Wisse) WELLS

July 3, 1929 ~ August 8, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Viola Eileen Wisse was born the second daughter of Jon & Elizabeth (nee Leys) Wisse at Rosetown, SK on July 3, 1929 just before the dirty thirties.  As her parents moved around, she attended schools in Meota, Robin Hood, Prince and Park Bluff.  In 1946, she and her older sister Mary rode and lead their family horses from Park Bluff to Hughton, a memorable marathon trip for two teenage girls.  Once the family settled, Voila finished her Grade 12 in Hughton.  She worked briefly at Robin Hood Flour Mill in Saskatoon and the Mental Hospital in North Battleford before settling in to a job as a clerk at Allport’s General Store in Elrose.  Donald Wells, who had recently moved from Landis, and Viola fell in love and were married on September 29, 1953 at Hughton.  They lived briefly in Elrose before purchasing the Madill farm in the East Gap District, south of Elrose in the spring of 1956.  Their daughter, Amy Anne, was born in 1957 completing their family.

Vi loved nature and farm life, working cooperatively with Don in the fields, constructing buildings; whatever presented itself.  She kept all sorts of animals and milked a cow most of her life.  Vi gardened, cooking and baking with as much produce off their own farm as she could - her hands were never still.  She sewed, quilted and read, taught Sunday School, led CGIT, was UCW secretary and a 4-H leader for many years.  She could type and learned to use a computer to write letters expressing her concerns for the world.  Vi moved to the Golden Years Lodge in Elrose in December 2015 after numerous falls. Her family truly appreciates the care and commitment the Lodge staff gave her over her 20 month stay.  Thank you to the staff, volunteers and her special friend, Faye Woodworth for the time and effort everyone gave her.  She was especially looked after until she passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at age 88.

The chapters of Vi Wells’ life have closed but her story and love will live on with all she touched, especially her family.

Vi was predeceased by her parents Jon & Elizabeth Wisse; sisters Doreen Wisse and Joyce Forgie; brother-in-laws Donald Forgie, Joe Schmidt and Alex Elliott; her in-laws Marjory and Hunter Wells; sister and brother-in-law Islay and Doug Graber and nephews Gary Schmidt and Rocky Graber.  She is survived by her loving husband Donald Wells; daughter Amy; grandsons James and William (Allison) and great-granddaughter Autumn; sisters Mary Elliott and Betty Schmidt as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Service to Celebrate Vi’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. from the Elrose United Church on Friday, September 8, 2017 with Mr. Jim MacNaughton officiating.  A Private Family Interment of her cremated remains took place at the Hughton Cemetery.  Donations in Vi’s memory to the Elrose Health Centre Auxiliary (Activity Dept.), P.O. Box 100, Elrose, SK S0L 0Z0 would be graciously appreciated by the family.
