William "Bill" Joseph MARTIN

April 3, 1927 ~ July 24, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old


William “Bill” Martin was born April 3, 1927 at the Eston Union Hospital.  He passed away on July 24, 2017 in the Eston Nursing Home.  Bill started school in Montrose and completed his high school in Richlea.  In between he also attended St. Joseph’s High School in Rosetown and St. Peter’s College in Muenster.  Following high school he attended the University of Saskatchewan taking Agriculture.  

He started farming with his father in 1945. Upon his father’s passing in 1951, he farmed with his mother and younger brother Paul.  On July 8, 1953 he married Charline Bechard of Rosetown and at this time his mother, brothers and sisters moved to Saskatoon.  Bill and Charline resided on the family farm until 1981 when they moved to Eston.  Bill continued to have an interest in farming until he moved into the Eston Nursing Home.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Charline M. Martin née Bechard; two sons: Dale Martin and Ed & Monanne Martin and their daughters Amanda (Damien) Evens, their children Hayden, Cruz, Cole and Keira; Sabrina (Brayden) Meckling, their son Rowen; and Tessa (Brian) Wallace; Bill’s siblings: sister Pat Mercier; brother Paul (Jackie) Martin; twin sisters Mary Ellen Karpenic (George) and Marjorie (Alf) Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Vera Martin; granddaughter Kyla Martin; infant brother Tom Martin; sisters Dolores and husband Frank Steele and Mildred and husband Bob Bell; and brother-in-law Paul Mercier.

Vigil of Prayer was held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 and Memorial Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart Parish, Eston, SK. with Reverend Father David Tumback as celebrant.  Rite of Committal to follow at Eston Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to The Wheatland + 50 Club, P.O. Box 868, 130 – 1st Avenue SW, Eston, Sask. S0L 1A0.
