Alexander SCHNEIDER Obituary

Alexander Schneider, age 94, of Kyle, Saskatchewan passed away on October 27, 2025 at the Kyle Health Centre.

Alex was born September 10, 1931 on the family farm north of Clearwater Lake. In 1945, the Schneider family moved to Clearwater Lake where Alex resided until 1999 when he retired in Kyle, SK.

Alex was a self-taught master fixer; he loved the challenge of mechanics, welding and construction. As an avid reader, he learned about a variety of topics. Alex put that knowledge to good use during spirited discussions and he often won the argument since he could remain calm.

In the 1960's, Alex worked for the RM of Lacadena building roads; he was part of the crew that discovered the woolly mammoth bones near Kyle. Alex also helped to install the water and sewer lines in town; he was later employed as a school bus driver while farming with his father-in-law, Nils Egeland. Alex farmed with his son until 1999. Alex married Marlene Egeland on June 19, 1959. Alex and Marlene enjoyed visiting, dancing and travelling; they were rarely apart.

They have two children: Sharon (Don) Hamilton and Marty (Denise) Schneider. Their treasured grandchildren are: Alyssa (Mike) Allarie, Carson (Amy) Hamilton, Colby (Tatum) Schneider, Nelson (Acacia) Schneider and Dalton (Ashlyn) Schneider. Great-grandchildren added joy to Alex's life; his eyes lit up when they came to "play" with him. Recent photos of Alex building block towers with his youngest great-grandchildren show absolute happiness. His great-grandchildren include: Everly Allarie, Madelyn, Camryn, Claire, Hudson, June and Osmond Schneider.

Alex looked forward to hunting adventures each year. He was a member of the Kyle Fish & Game League, Kyle Elks Service Club and the Kyle Legion.

During his retirement, Alex designed and built beautiful hand-crafted knives; some were donated to community fundraisers and others were gifted to family and friends.

Alex was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Mary Schneider, siblings, Gladys (Wally) Knox, Mary (John) Rempel, Betty Schneider, Eva (Leonard) Barlow, Annie (Jim) Speir and Leslie Schneider.

Alex is survived by his wife of 66 years, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Joyce Schneider and Olean (Don) Haldane.

Alex was a first generation Canadian; his parents were Hungarian immigrants who arrived in Saskatchewan with nothing but the promise of a good life; they learned to speak English and they persevered in a new environment. During summer months, they sold vegetables, eggs, chicken and milk to cottage owners and in the winter Alex's dad worked as a tailor. Alex understood the value of their efforts and he was proud of a hard day's work. He always had a project to keep himself busy.

Alex was patient and kind, a true gentleman.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Alex can be made to the Kyle Sports Centre.
