Arda Lois (Gross) SCHWEITZER

Arda Lois Schweitzer (née Gross) of Eston, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born in the Eston Union Hospital on November 3, 1934 to Adolf and Otillie Gross. Arda along with her brothers, Walter, Ernest and Elmer lived on the family farm four miles south of Eston. She attended Guthrie School and then moved to Eston to complete her high school education. After attending Saskatoon Teacher's College, Penkill School became her first, and only, placement.

July 12, 1955 she married William Herman Schweitzer. Together, they raised four children: Gary, Norine, Mark and Monanne. Arda was a dedicated wife and mother working alongside her husband in the fields and running after four very busy children. Bridge was a passion of Arda's. She played with many groups over the years and continued after moving into the Lodge. She also enjoyed a good game of golf with friends. She sat on the Co-op board for many years, enjoying the challenges it presented.

Upon semi-retiring from farming, Arda and Bill built a house in 1987. In 1990 Bill was diagnosed with cancer and ten months later, on October 9, he passed away. Following Bill's passing, Arda spent time traveling with friends and family. Spending time with her grandchildren was very important to Arda, taking each one of them on a holiday with her. In her later years she spent a great deal of her time with her companion Alex Houston. Alex and Arda enjoyed travelling to many places. They spent times together until his passing on December 11, 2011. Due to failing health, Arda spent the past two and a half years residing in the Eston Nursing Home.

Arda was predeceased by her husband Bill, granddaughter Kyla Martin and Kyla's companion Dallas Sunstrum, and Arda's companion Alex Houston.

She is survived by her children Gary (Susanne) children Autumn (Mark), Lisa and Megan (Drew); Norine Bews (Don) children Chantal (Serge) and daughter Stella, and Danine (John) and children Iralyn, Jacoby and Shaye; Mark (Martina) children Cody, and Aaron(Kate); Monanne Martin (Ed) children Amanda (Damien) and children Hayden, Cruz, Cole and Keira, Sabrina (Brayden) and son Rowen, and Tessa (Brian); together with her brother Elmer (Judy) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. Andrew’s United Church, Eston, SK. with Reverend Barbara MacNaughton officiating. Donations in memory of Arda may be made to Eston Caring Hands, Eston, SK. S0L 1A0.
