Audrey HORNE Obituary

In the quaint village of Maryhill, Ontario, Audrey Elizabeth Zinger was born at home on November 7, 1935.

On April 14, 1952 she married the love of her life, Leo Russel Horne. They would have celebrated 74 years of marriage April 14, 2026.  Mom passed 152 days after Dad - they had a love like no other.

From a young age, Mom helped at her parents’ general store.  She went to her grandparents on weekends to help on their farm.  After she married, her and Dad moved to Midland, Texas in 1955 with their two oldest children Gary and Darline. They then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and welcomed Rob, Ken, Karen, Ann and Ron. In 1964 they moved back to Maryhill, Ontario. Dad built a new house in Bloomingdale, Ontario, where Lisa was born.

Mom and Dad moved to British Columbia in 1980, then retired in Elrose, Saskatchewan in 1996. There wasn't a day when one of her children didn't stop by. The amount of love that was given and received over the years was immeasurable.

Mom was always a homemaker and peacemaker. She taught us all so many values and how to find the good in everyone - she had the biggest heart of all.  Mom enjoyed flowers, reading, crocheting, visiting, Generations with her daughters where she was known as the ‘Queen of Tarts’, life and faith. She was always a good neighbour and friend. She welcomed everyone into their home. She was especially fond of all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mom is survived by her eight children: Gary (Shane, Tara, Liam, Caitlin), Darline (Cynthia, Amy, Jim), Rob (Shannon, Bobby, Erin), Ken (Danielle, Meghan, Ryan, Jordan), Ann (Jeremy, Alex), Karen and her husband Randy (Alisha, Ashley, Tyler, Travis), Ron and his wife Brenda (Sheldon, Abrianna, Shyla, Brandon, Taylor), Lisa and her husband Darin (Tyson, Layden, Carter), 29 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by two of her sisters-in-law Sylvia Hergott and Carol Zinger.  Mom was predeceased by her parents Simon and Gertrude Zinger, her mother and father-in-law Leo and Edna Horne, her brother George Zinger and sister Sheila Moore who passed five weeks before her, brothers-in-law Jack Horne, Terry Horne, Jim Horne, Bill Moore and Clare Hergott, as well as two sisters-in-law Margie Boyko and Nancy Wager. Mom was also predeceased by son-in-law Harley Lehmkuhl and daughter-in-law Rosemary Horne.

Mom will be missed in a million ways - too many to mention. It gives us all peace to know that her and Dad are together again. They were a true legend and had a type of love you don't see every day.

Mom passed surrounded by her children, who never left her side during her brief illness. As she took her last breath, a single tear rolled down her cheek and we knew she was embraced by God.

We cannot begin to express our gratitude to Dr. Avery Ironside and the Nursing staff at Rosetown Hospital.

Donations can be made in memory of Mom to Elrose Volunteer Fire Brigade

A private family funeral will be held at a later date.
