Berdeen RINGROSE Obituary

Berdeen Maxine Helen was born on May 9, 1936 in Beechy to parents John and Myrtle Schotanus.  Berdeen attended school at Coteau Hills and LCBI, where she made lifelong friends.  She loved to tell stories about sneaking out at night and back in through some unsuspecting classmate’s open window.  As a girl, she loved to play hockey and baseball and was better than most of the boys.

Following high school, Berdeen tried her hand at a variety of jobs which included, being a nanny, store clerk and working side by side with her husband on the race track.   Berdeen’s motto was always “work hard, play harder”.

Berdeen married Gerald Laycock Ringrose on August 16, 1957.  They had four children and farmed west of Beechy.  After her four children were nearly grown, she started cooking in restaurants in Beechy.  Many people would go to the restaurant that she was working at for the awesome food and particularly the potato and macaroni salads that she prepared.

Berdeen (aka Grandma, Auntie Dean and Great Grandma Cheesie) was a strong and loyal woman who cared deeply for her family.  She was always willing to lend a helping hand or sit and listen to anyone who stopped by.   She especially loved to watch her grandchildren grow and would often feed them a bowl of macaroni and hot dogs or have a special treat tucked in her coat which she would present to them if she came to visit.

In 2017, Berdeen’s health began to deteriorate and she went into respite.  She moved into the Beechy Care Home in April and then in March 2018, she moved to Lucky Lake Care Home where she resided until she passed away on October 24, 2020.

Berdeen is survived by her children: Kirk (Kelly) Ringrose, Kelly (Neal) Hare, Cindy (Al) Davidson and Mark (Leah) Ringrose; grandchildren: Dani (Kyle) Ringrose-Hobbs, Kerry (Danna) Ringrose, David, Shelby and Michael Hare, Mason Ringrose and Beau dog Davidson;  great-grandchildren: Ryder and Rose Ringrose and Jude and Ash Ringrose-Hobbs; brother Dale (Shirley) Schotanus; sisters-in-law Shirley Schotanus and Laurabelle (Butch) Engel as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Gerald, parents John and Myrtle, sister Marlene, brother Gary, in-laws Colin and Helen and many other family members.

A public visitation was held on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the Beechy New Horizons Hall, followed by a private family visitation and a private family committal service at the Beechy Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Berdeen may be made to STARS, Hangar 21, 2475 Airport Road, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 1M4 or Beechy-Demaine Emergency Services Inc., P.O. Box 190, Beechy, SK, S0L 0C0.
