Betty HOUGH Obituary

Betty Jean Marie Hough (née MacDonald) was born on August 24, 1930, at the Rosetown Hospital to Alex and Elizabeth (McCuaig) MacDonald, who both hailed from Priceville, Ontario. She was one of four children, growing up alongside her brothers Jock and Charlie, and her sister Margaret on the family farm near Stranraer, Saskatchewan, where she developed a lifelong love of learning and a strong sense of community.

Betty attended Normal School in Saskatoon before beginning her teaching career at Glamis School, where her passion for education truly blossomed. On October 9, 1951, she married Clive Emerson Hough, and together they farmed in the Glamis district before settling in Rosetown in 1979. Their nearly seven decades of marriage were filled with devotion, community service, and deep love for family. They raised three children—Derril (Karen) Hough, Sandra (Murray) Cordes, and Shelley (Dwayne) Low—instilling values of kindness, faith, and hard work.

Betty was known for her warm smile, her hospitality, and unwavering generosity. She loved baking, supporting local events, and contributing her energy to WI, Eastern Star, and her church community. Alongside Clive, she also shared a zest for travel and a love for many activities, enjoying camping trips, cruises, journeys abroad, and countless moments together dancing, curling, golfing, and bowling.

Betty passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at age 94. She was predeceased by her husband, Clive (2019), her parents, and her siblings. She leaves behind a large and loving family who will always cherish her memory: her grandchildren Melissa (David) with children Asher and Aria, Tanya with children Ella and Grace, Ryan (Jane) with children Lucy and Eve, Todd, Derek (Elena) with children Garren and Nash, Trina (Miro) with child Dimitri, Chelsea (Cameron) with children James, Owen, and Julie, and Travis.

Betty’s family will always remember her for the abiding love, laughter, and encouragement she offered so freely.

A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Rosetown United Church. A livestream of the service will be available to view here. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Rosetown Villa and Rosetown Hospital for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rosetown United Church, an organization dear to Betty’s heart.

Betty’s gentle presence, commitment to teaching, and devotion to family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
