Beverley COLLINS Obituary

It is with sadness the family of Beverley Jean Collins announce her passing on February 27, 2021 at the age of 78 years.

Bev was born in Glace Bay, NS. She was a proud “Cape Bretoner” and loved the ocean - even after she moved with her parents and two-year-old twin sisters to the bare prairies of Rosetown, SK in 1957. Her father became the area’s new magistrate, and Bev entered Rosetown High School where she made some lifelong friends and met handsome local boy, Norm Collins. They soon began dating, and married on April 24, 1962 after Bev completed Teachers’ College. One year later, Norm finished his Engineering degree and the young couple moved to Humboldt where Bev taught school then, back to Rosetown in 1967 to begin their farming life together and start a family. Bev was a dedicated stay-at-home Mom when Ian and Sheryl were little, while bookkeeping for the farm and Norm’s Ski-Doo business and generally keeping Norm in line. She returned to teaching in Rosetown for a time, and worked other jobs before embarking on an 18-year stint as Secretary/Treasurer at the Rosetown United Church. Bev was also a long-time member there, volunteering for church activities and faithfully serving her community through Kinettes, the Canadian Diabetes Association and other groups.

Bev loved reading, gardening, family history, crafts, and especially traveling. She loved children, from her students, to her own children and especially her grandkids. Bev was a special person who took care of others and always prioritized her family and friends above herself. She will be remembered and deeply missed as a kind, supportive person who helped wherever needed, and took care of us all.

Bev is survived by her husband of 58 years, Norm Collins; son Ian (Karen) Collins and their children, Kyla (Raúl) and Shane (Paige); daughter Sheryl (Robin) Niebergall and their children, Colin and Curtis; sisters Sheila Sundquist and Susan MacDonald (Norm Eady); brother-in-law Doug Collins; and many special nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was predeceased by parents C. Roy and Margaret MacDonald, in-laws Judd and Margaret Collins, sister-in-law Marion Collins, brother-in-law Keith Collins, and her dear friend of over 50 years, Donna Woodward.

The family would like to thank the staff at Orange Memories and Elrose Health Centre for the excellent care provided, including the compassionate nursing care during her final days.
