Brian McLEOD Obituary

Brian Wayne McLeod of Herschel, Saskatchewan died unexpectedly at his home on February 16, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Eileen McLeod.  He is survived by his brother Allan (Linda) of Saskatoon and his sister Linda Bec (Lionel) of Herschel.  He is also survived by three nephews Ryan, Chris and Devon Bec, two nieces Shannon McLeod and Lisa Bryant and close friend Eleanor Blair of Herschel.

Brian was born in Saskatoon on April 24, 1944.  He lived in Herschel until 1949 when he moved with his parents to Glenavon, Saskatchewan.   He returned to Herschel in 1963 and with a few short exceptions lived in Herschel until his passing. Brian had various jobs throughout his life including working on elevator repair crews and adjusting crop insurance claims, however, many will remember him as he worked beside his mother and father in operating the grocery store (McLeod’s Store) in Herschel. Without his help they would been forced to get out of the grocery business many years before they did. After the store closed, he continued to stay at home with Eileen providing the assistance she needed to stay in her own home until the last year of her life.  Most recently he was employed by the RM supervising the community waste removal site.

He was a regular on coffee row at the Herschel rink. He was a sports enthusiast, he had been a hockey and baseball player, a hockey referee and an avid curler and bowler. One year he was excited to be on a team of bowlers from Rosetown that participated in a national tournament in Toronto.   He followed almost all sports paying particular attention to hockey, CFL football and baseball.  He spent hours on the road during the hockey season driving his nephews to hockey games and practices.

In recent years, he and Eleanor travelled with their sound equipment to various long term care homes in the area providing music for the residents on Sunday afternoon; it was something he took great pleasure doing. He tried to be a friend to all and certainly by no means an enemy to no one.
