Bruce MacDONALD Obituary

Bruce MacDonald, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK after a brief hospitalization on June 17, 2020 at the age of 90 years.

Bruce was born in Eston, SK on September 2, 1929 to Edith and John MacDonald. He was raised on the farm at Chipperfield attending school at Aird, then high school at Eston, graduating in 1948. As a young man, Bruce enjoyed playing baseball on several local teams; a winter activity was cross-country skiing to check his traps. Bruce farmed in partnership with his brother Don starting in 1949, working in Toronto, Saskatoon and Vancouver during the winter until he was married. In November 1954, Bruce married Bonnie Steinbronn from Elrose; they lived and farmed at Bickleigh raising six children and participating in community life. Bruce enjoyed farming for many years, he always looked forward to Monday morning and getting back to work. Bruce made summer vacation a priority for his family, his family remembers fondly the times spent boating and water skiing at Emma Lake and Christopher Lake with friends and family. When Bonnie passed away in 1985, Bruce continued to farm with Scott until he retired and moved to Saskatoon. Bruce met Dorothy Novakovski, they were married in September 2003 and lived in Saskatoon until his passing.

Bruce was very pragmatic and practical with a methodical, common-sense approach to life. Bruce enjoyed a good hearty laugh, had a great sense of humour and was known to play practical jokes on friends. Bruce loved big band music and dancing in earlier days; his kids all knew who Glen Miller and Tommy Dorsey were. Bruce had a quiet and steadfast faith in his Heavenly Father. At the age of 88 years, Bruce made a public expression of his faith through baptism.

Bruce leaves to cherish his memory his wife Dorothy and her family; his children Scott (Cheryl), Janice (Bill) Savoy, Jeremy (Corey) Schaber, Mia and Olivia, Kellan, Kirsty (Karl) Jennings, baby Hudson; Marlene (Garry) McOuat, Tanis (Matt) Hamilton, Karlee (Evan) Johnstone; Donna (Todd) Jensen, Carter and Kade; Chris (Bob) MacDonald, Iain (Shelby), Curtis, Anna, Cameron; Joan (Lyonel) Wall, Parker and Kyle; sister Jessie (Bob) Salkeld and sister-in-law Jean MacDonald. He was predeceased by his parents Edith (1933) and John (1966), sister Edith and husband Dave, brother Don (2018) and wife Bonnie (1985).

A graveside service for family and close friends was held at the Greenan Cemetery.
