It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Ostapowich of Rosetown, SK. She happily lived her entire life in Rosetown amidst family and close friends. Carol took her schooling “north of the creek” and in Rosetown, where she graduated.
Carol married Herbie Frerichs on Nov. 1, 1958 and together they raised four children: Norma, Dennis, Karen and Steven. She enjoyed farm life; working alongside Herbie for 39 years, keeping her kids corralled and tending to her large garden and strawberry patch. Carol held several jobs over the years including pharmacy clerk, Granny’s Fabric, Home Care - Special Care Aid and as a volunteer at the local Thrift Store. She always felt her most important job was that of being a mom and a wife, which she knocked out of the ballpark.
After Herbie passed away in January of 1997, Carol moved from the farm into Rosetown. She rekindled a friendship with William Ostapowich and they married on July 7, 2001 in Rosetown. Carol and Will enjoyed their years together travelling, socializing with their dear friends, and dancing. Oh how they loved to dance.
Carol also loved to sew, paint pictures, golf, curl and bowl. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Purple, the Ridpath Ladies Club and the Red Hats. She absolutely loved being with all of these special ladies. Carol faithfully attended the Rosetown United Church and for many years enjoyed singing in the church choir. Carol loved people, the friendships she cultivated were far and wide. A tired heart never slowed her down. She lived her life to the fullest until her last day. Carol lived without regrets and always with that “big Evans smile” on her face.
Carol is survived by her loving husband Will of 18.5 years and her children; Norma (Kevin) Gawletz and their children: Kendra (Kenny) Fuglerud (Gunnar, Brooks & Jake), Mike (Laura) Gawletz (Caleb & Jasper); Dennis (Jennifer) Frerichs and their children: Reid & Jacklyn (Josh); Karen (Ian) Collins and their children: Kyla (Raul) & Shane (Paige); and Steve (Tammy) Frerichs and their children: Stacia (Mike), Stacia’s children Mia, Maddex, Farrah & Violet and Kirstin (Devon) Geib. Her sister Joy Grip, sisters-in-law Marilyn Evans and Jeanne Evans, brother-in-law Gordon (Louise) Frerichs and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol is also survived by her step-children Michele (Ted) Corbett, Tracy (Randy) Young and Darrin Ostapowich and their families and Will’s sister Rose Pozium.
Carol was predeceased by her husband Herbie (1997), parents Howard and Lavina Evans, step-father Cam Lawrence, sisters Donna Lawton and Mary Sherick, brothers Dent and Nelson Evans, brothers-in-law Bert Sherick, Ernie Lawton and Bill Grip, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Ida Frerichs.
