It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wife, mom, grandma, daughter and sister, Carole Butcher, on September 17, 2023 at the age of 57.
Carole is remembered by her mom Alice Porter, husband of 35 years Bill, two sons Corey (Bailey) and Derek (Lacey), two granddaughters Allie and Charlie, sister Colleen Ponto (Dave), brother-in-law Jerry as well as numerous relatives and her dog Cooper.
Carole was predeceased by her father Tom Porter, sister Irene Bochanesky, mother-in-law Lois Butcher and numerous aunts and uncles.
Carole was born June 1, 1966, the baby of the family. She grew up in Conquest, participating in everything from sports to band.
Carole married her high school sweetheart, Bill, in 1988. They had their two boys, Corey and Derek. Carole enjoyed taking them to their activities and sports all through their childhood. She was so proud of the men they turned into.
Carole pursued a career in education. She was a very successful teacher, learning coach, principal and superintendent. She touched so many different lives of the students, co-workers and families during her time in Harris, Kenaston, Outlook and Rosetown schools. She retired in January of 2023 and continued to work part time at the DLC in Kenaston as a Student Support Consultant.
This year marks seven years that she had been a breast cancer survivor. Carole was happy to participate in the Run for the Cure every year.
Spending time with her granddaughters, Allie and Charlie, brought her so much happiness. She was able to share her love of reading with Allie. Carole loved having the girls for sleepovers and spending time with them. She shared her love of learning with both girls. Family truly was everything to Carole.
Carole had a passion for travelling. She and Bill recently went on an Alaskan cruise. One of her favorite trips was spent with her mom and sister, Colleen, on a Norwegian cruise. She was so proud to learn more about her Norwegian heritage.
Anyone who was lucky enough to know Carole, knows how much she will be missed. She was a beacon of light for many people.
A Celebration of Carole’s Life will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Harris Community Centre. Memorial Donations may be directed to Breast Cancer Canada, 101-415 Exmouth Street, Sarnia, Ontario, N7T 8A4, www.breastcancerprogress.ca.
