It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Craig Harvey on October 23, 2024 at the age of 58 years.
Craig leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of 34 years, Gerri Harvey; Father, Don Harvey (Isabel Caron); Sister, Jeanne Gilchrist; Sister-In-Law, Terry Garrett; Nieces: Steph Green (Husband, Kyle and Children: Halle & Owen); Alysha Robb (Husband, Taylor and Children: Brody & Aria); Nephews: Drew Gilchrist (Son, Ares); Dustin Garrett (Wife, Natalie and Children: Blake & Brooke). He was predeceased by his Mother, Phyllis Harvey (January 2015); Father-In-Law, Jim Cuming (November 1996); Mother-In-Law, Ruby Cuming (July 1991).
Craig was born in Rosetown and attended elementary school at Walter Aseltine and high school at Rosetown Composite. Even at a young age Craig was very scholastic and spent hours reading on any and every subject that came his way. After high school, he attended Kelsey, receiving a Diploma in the Agricultural Machinery Technician Program. After working only a year as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in Humboldt, Craig’s love for farming brought him back home to take over the family farm. It was 1986 that he began farming, the same year meeting his best friend and loving companion Gerri, whom he married on April 7, 1990. Together, they would spend the next 30 years building their farm oasis, single-handedly manicuring it to what you see today.
Farming full time, he also owned and operated Harvey Seed Cleaning and Harvey’s Computer Sales. Working on his computer was his happy place and nothing fulfilled Craig more than trying to crash a video game finding bugs, glitches and historical inaccuracies. This was exemplified by the pivotal work he did as a play tester for Battlefront.com, where he worked alongside his buddies from across the globe on over a dozen different computer war games.
Very active in the community, Craig was instrumental in bringing Precision Manufacturing, the maker of the Rake-Up Pickup, to Rosetown. He sat on many Boards including Rosetown Curling Club, Ducks Unlimited, and was an RM of St. Andrews Councillor. He participated in and organized numerous fundraisers over the years.
Craig’s love for baseball took him and Gerri to the US where they enjoyed watching many Major League Baseball games. In the most recent years, their travels took them to their favourite state - Florida, to watch MLB Spring Training.
All who knew and loved him will remember his sharp wit, sarcastic humor, his unique individualism, his love for Gerri and love for life.
A Tribute to Craig was held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosetown Civic Centre. A video recording of the service can be viewed here.
