Darlene DUBOIS Obituary

Darlene was born on September 27, 1940 in Rosetown Sk. the oldest child of Arthur & Edith Machart. She grew up on the family farm near Valley Center and attended Hazledeen Elementary School before moving to Rosetown for High School. She graduated in 1958 and worked as a bank teller for the Toronto Dominion Bank in Rosetown where she met and later married Albert Dubois in 1962. They purchased a farm south of Rosetown and were blessed with three children; Grant, Ronald and Leanne. Darlene was an avid gardener and talented cook who turned birthdays and holidays into truly amazing events. Enjoying a piece of her mud pie was a highly anticipated event. She had an eye for fashion and returned to work at Flair Fashions, a ladies clothing store in Rosetown, when the kids were grown. She loved interacting with customers and developed lifelong friendships with her co-workers.

Albert and Darlene retired from farming and moved to Rosetown in 2000. They both loved their hobbies; Albert with his wood working and Darlene with her stained glass.  They would often work together on a project; Darlene making the stained glass piece and Albert designing the perfect frame. Darlene also enjoyed feeding her birds and took delight in watching them for hours. They maintained a small cottage at Jackfish Lake and spent many summer days entertaining grandkids and friends, fishing and boating or just sitting together admiring the view. She knew where to find the best soft ice cream in Cochin and made sure her grandsons were treated to it.

Albert passed away in 2012 and Darlene continued to live on her own while still venturing up to the lake for the summer months.  Her faithful dog Hershey was never far from her side.  Together, they would walk for miles each day, meeting and visiting with other regulars on their daily outdoor venture. Darlene doted over her eight grandsons and always made them feel special. Grandma’s house was a place of warmth and she always ensured there was a special project or activity to keep them busy. She instilled the love of cooking in them and sewed them many special items. She even made miniature tents to sleep in; transforming her living room floor into a miniature Woodstock Festival.

In 2018, Darlene moved into Orange Memories Retirement Home and then Rose Villa Long Term Care Home where she lived out her final years. Blessed be her Memory.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Arthur & Edith (Walker) Machart, brother Howard Machart, and husband Albert Dubois.  She is survived by her three children Grant (Debbie), Ronald (Brenda), and Leanne (Jason), and eight grandsons, Andrew, Braden, Cole, Bryce, Bailey, Reid, Owen, & James, and her beloved dog Hershey.
