Donald Lee “Don” McQueen - beloved son, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on May 30, 2024 in his hometown of Rosetown, Saskatchewan.
Don was born in Kindersley on March 14, 1957 to loving parents Alex and Edith McQueen. Don’s early years were shared with his twin brother Ron, creating a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and camaraderie...and maybe a little mischief.
The family spent the boys first eight years in Eatonia, Saskatchewan, followed by brief stints in Saskatoon, Elrose and Swift Current. Along the way, Dean completed the family and another move in 1975 meant putting down roots for good in Rosetown. Don loved his sports and played as many as he could with great success. A graduate of Rosetown Composite High School in 1976, Don continued to work and live in the community for most of his adult life. Prior to his retirement he had worked for the Town of Rosetown.
In 1987, his daughter Dawna-Lee was born and he set to work on spoiling her rotten. Weekends and summers included 7-11 slurpees, heading to the cabin at Turtle Lake with Alex and Edith and learning to drive a stick shift on back roads.
Don was a kind soul who gladly helped anyone who needed it. He was always there for his family, especially when his dad’s illness required frequent trips to Saskatoon. Don did all he could to help out and ensure his mom was well looked after and the family is eternally grateful for the way he supported them.
Don’s legacy is also carried on by his adored grandchildren: Leighton, Hudson and Barrett. Each of them will remember their grandfather for many reasons; cheering from the sidelines at their games, or sharing his love for hockey, or making sure they never left a visit without a loud toy or a bag of sweets.
Predeceased by his father Alex, in 2019 and his sister-in-law Carol in 2014, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
Don’s memory is honored and kept alive by his loving mother Edith McQueen, his daughter Dawna (Scot) Nienaber, his cherished grandchildren Leighton, Hudson and Barrett, his brothers Ron and Dean (Lori) and his nephews Braeden and Rylan.
A private family service to celebrate Don's life will be held on June 17, 2024 at the Rosetown Cemetery.
