It is with sadness the family of Earl Robert (Bob) Stevens announces his passing on September 23, 2023 at the age of 97. Born at home July 25, 1926 the second son of Herbert and Mildred (Thompson). Home was Sec 6, Tp 30, Rg 17 W3rd. The family consisted of his four brothers: Willis (Vera), John (Madeline), Jim (Margaret) and Norman, sisters: Violet (Albert) Lindoff, Eileen (George) Ruthven, Edna (Herb) Clark, Helen (Joe) Kilford.
He started working on the farm at an early age, helping with chores, and walking two miles to school. The school he attended was Oskaloosa, the school district was started by the Lafayette Family, It is one of the very few Integrated schools in Saskatchewan. With the family cutting cross country on Lafayette land. Thus began a very strong relationship between the families.
When Herbert left for the war in December of 1941, Mildred and the family kept the farm operating. Bob left school at the completion of grade 8 and began his farming career. Working off the farm in the winter, he along with his brother Willis worked in logging camps and when he could get work locally, he was a farmhand tending livestock and performing all farm duties.
On June 17, 1957, he married Helen Buttar and together they farmed until Helen’s death in 2014. Blue Jay Farm was a mixed farming operation grain, cattle and chickens. Bob retired from the farm in 2020 at the age of 94 after bringing in his 74th crop.
Bob and Helen enjoyed following their nieces and nephews to all kinds of sporting events, graduation and weddings They were great supporters of the Rosetown Redwings Sr. Hockey team for many years attending home and away games. They enjoyed great Bonspiel meals at their local Fiske rink and were regular participants of the morning coffee crew. Not being travelers, Fiske was home, and home is where his heart will always be.
Left to mourn Bob are his brothers John and Norm, sisters, Eileen and Edna, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Allan Gairns officiating.
