It is with heavy hearts we suddenly say goodbye to Edith Sara Klassen. Edith was born on the family farm near Herschel on May 1, 1928 to Abram and Helena Klassen. She became a teacher and taught in various places. While teaching in Luseland, she met Lorne. They were married in 1951 while living in Borden. In 1953 they moved to Rabbit Lake where they farmed until 1957 when they moved to Herschel to farm with her parents. Here they raised four children. Mom was always very involved with the farming. She also enjoyed gardening, needlework, golfing and was a great cook. She was also involved with the Mennonite Church and the community. In 1993, they moved to Vernon while spending winters in Arizona. In 2011, they moved to Caleb Village Retirement Community in Kindersley.
On August 21, 2020 she went to her final home in Heaven where she joined her husband Lorne. Edith is survived by her four children, Elaine (David), Joan (Glenn), Bob (Linda), David and daughter-in-law Helen along with twelve grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Ruth Dyck, Phyllis Maloney, Gail Klassen, Lorna Klassen and brothers-in-law Bruce (Jackie) and Wayne (Sandra).
She was predeceased by her husband in April 2020, parents, granddaughters Lainie and Lori, brothers Jack, Henry, Ernie and sister Helen and numerous brothers and sisters in law.
A celebration of Edith’s life will be held when family and friends are able to be together again. Donations in memory of Edith may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9.
