Edward APPLIN Obituary

It is with profound sadness that I share the unexpected passing of my loving husband, Ed, on Saturday, August 30th, 2025 at RUH in Saskatoon.

Ed was born June 10th, 1958 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family ranch at Marengo. He graduated from Westcliffe School in Marengo and remained on the ranch until 1991 when he moved to Grandview, Manitoba to marry his fiancee Maureen (nee Herbert) who had taken a job there. Ed ranched and worked as a Pasture Rider on a few PFRA Community Pastures. In 2000 the Pasture work took them back to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and then another move in 2006 to Manage the Sylvan Dale Community Pasture near Fisher Branch, Manitoba. With the end of an era in Pastures it was back to Saskatchewan in 2010 this time to Outlook where Ed wore a variety of new hats and excelled at all: SPCAInvestigator, By-law Enforcement, various roles in the Oil Patch, Livestock Brand Inspector and finally as a Municipal Labourer and part time Funeral Attendant. For 23 years Ed proudly volunteered for what was his true passion - as an Auxiliary RCMP Constable working out of 4 different detachments in Manitoba and Saskatchewan until the program ended.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Maureen, his sister Ellen (Larry), brothers Mike (Penni), Peter (Sheila) and Victor, brother-in-law Kevin; nieces and nephews: Brian (Tracy), Ella, Molly ; Brenda (Dusty), Zachary, Cole & Lilly; Kevin (Jazmine), Gradyn; Ashley (Trevor), Belle, Carter & Grace; Jason (Whitney), Opal, Anders & Leddie; Michaella &Tyler (Lora); Kayley (Kurt) & Taylor as well as cousins and many friendsacross the Prairies.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Dan and Joan, his sisters Lois and Doris and sister-in-law Barb.  His trusty & favourite horse Buck and his loved border collie Jess.

Ed loved the outdoors, his farm animals, reading Canadian history and westerns, skunking friends and family at crib and was renowned for BBQing the perfect steak!  He loved entertaining and had a way of making everyone feel so welcome.

To meet Ed was to instantly like him and Ed’s hearty laugh, his ultra-quick wit, unending sense of fun, kindness, thoughtfulness, ability to really listen, lack of judgment and humility will be so greatly missed.

A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Outlook Heritage Centre.

Donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Ed Applin would be greatly appreciated.
