Also left to cherish Ed’s memory are his sisters Leona Sieben, Maureen Stang, Beatrice Adelman, Patricia Hertz and Luci Lee and brothers Fr. Wendlin O.M.I., George, Ken, Fr. Ron O.M.I., and Pius and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and many precious nieces and nephews. Edwin was predeceased by his parents George and Mathilda, sisters Isabel Stang, Sr. Helen O.S.U and Agnes and brothers Fred and Denis.

Ed was born on October 3, 1932 in Macklin, SK. His parents farmed northwest of Cactus Lake. His early life revolved around the parish of St. Donatus where he attended mass (after lighting the fire to warm the church at 3:00 a.m.) and other church functions as well as proudly representing the parish on its baseball team. He met the love of his life, Anna Komaryk in 1955 when she came to the area to teach. Edwin and Anne were married on August 7, 1956 at St. Donatus. After working for a few years for the R.M. of Hearts Hill, Edwin was fortunate to be offered a job doing something he came to love, working with cattle. The young couple moved to the Wallis farm at D’Arcy, SK. A few years later, after meeting Bob Thrasher, Ed started the job he made into a well-loved career at Spring Valley Custom Feeders where he was the Operations Manager until he semi-retired in 1997. Following this, Ed was pleased to be asked to help family friends, the Siemen’s family, in their farming and cattle operation near Fiske, SK. This was the perfect way for him to move towards a full retirement.

Ed’s true passion was his family. In addition to providing for them through his work, he was also a coach for any hockey or baseball team that needed his help when his kids were younger. Ed’s coaching wasn’t just about the sport, he built “family” in each of the teams he was involved with. Once his children moved away from home, he continued to be involved in his community, continuing to serve in the Knights of Columbus, singing in the church choir and a community choir, volunteering at the thrift store and visiting the sick. Ed and Anne also devoted themselves to visiting their children and grandchildren (who he considered as his greatest treasures) for special occasions, to watch their events and to assist in any possible way in support of their lives, always encouraging, always in the right place at the right time.

The Vigil of Prayer was held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Father Wendlin Rolheiser O.M.I. presiding and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Ron Rolheiser O.M.I. celebrating from St. Theresa’s Parish, Rosetown.
