Eileen "Pat" TRAYHORNE Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eileen Mavis Young Trayhorne. To many she was known as “Pat”. She passed away on April 29, 2021.

Eileen Mavis Young was born July 24, 1927. Her parents Gordon and Edna Young travelled from Ottawa and settled on 25 acres at Okla, SK where Mom was born. Mom had five sisters - Francis, Pauline, Letitia, Georgina, Ruth and a half-brother Donald.

Mom was raised by James and Elizabeth Wilson Todd McCuen. She was 17 months old when she went to live with them. Mom was raised five miles north of Harris. Mom started school in Glen Eagle in 1935. After Glen Eagle closed in 1941, Mom started school in Harris. She rode her pony Sandy to school everyday; Sandy was her pride and joy. The severe cold and snow caused the school to be closed in January. Christmas concerts were the highlight of the year.

Mom’s nickname was Pat. She met Reginald Trayhorne in 1947 and they were married November 5, 1948. For the next three winters, they worked at the Bill Howard Farm and in the summer, they farmed at Greenan, SK. Reg started building their home in 1949, one mile east of Greenan. They raised four children on the farm - James, Betty Jane, Leslie and Elaine. They started school at Greenan and later travelled by bus to Elrose.

Dad was hurt in a farming accident in 1973 and lived in the Palliser in Swift Current for three years. Mom moved to Swift Current to be close to dad. Dad passed away in 1976 and after his passing, Mom moved to Saskatoon where she lived for 44 years. Family and friends were always welcome - Grandma’s Inn always had room for one more.

Mom was known for her big garden and helping Dad on the farm. She shared her garden produce with many neighbors. Mom and Dad would have a skating party every winter, neighbors and their families would come to skate and stay for a party in the evening. Mom and Dad supported Greenan, Wartime and Elrose by volunteering their time and cooked meals and desserts. Mom enjoyed card and board games and as a family, we spent many winter evenings playing cards.

Mom took great joy in attending sporting events and activities, for her children and then for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom will be missed and remembered as “Grandma Pat” by so many.

Mom was a member of the Greenan Home Makers, Royal Canadian Legion and the Elrose Legion Auxiliary.

Mom is survived by her family, Jim & Collein (Sherry, Victor, Rodney, Lauralea, Berkeley, Wellington, Hawthorne, April, Brian, DJ), Betty Jane & Darlene, Les & Barbara (Garrett, Melissa, Kylene, Kalyse, Cole, Danielle, Heath, Madisson, Monica, Cain, Erin, Kim, Anastasia, Erik, Bobby, Samantha, Chad, Skky), Elaine & Lawrence (Sabrina, Steve, Cody, Eva, John, Matthew, Sun Young, Taeho, Meghan, Jazmyn, Lukis, Alexandre), one sister Ruth Sandy, two sisters-in-law Marj Samson and Betty Trayhorne as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Reginald, her parents and in-laws, sons Edward and Fredrick, four sisters and their husbands, three brothers-in-law and their wives and one sister-in-law and her husband.
