Eleanor HAMMOND Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Eleanor Marina Hammond on Thursday, July 8th, 2021.
Eleanor was born in Elrose on September 4, 1942. She grew up in Elrose and received her public education at Elrose School. After attending business college in Saskatoon, she worked at the Royal University Hospital as a medical secretary. She was also employed for many years as a receptionist at the school board office in Saskatoon and later spent time working at the Saskatoon Public Library.

Eleanor loved to collect cookbooks and recipes. She didn’t always try out all of the recipes but would spend hours looking at cookbooks and finding new recipes on Pinterest. She enjoyed watching cooking shows and her remote was often set to “The Food Network”.

Another of Eleanor’s interests was gardening and yard work. During visits to the farm, she enjoyed spending afternoons working in the garden. She was also very particular about her yard in Saskatoon and kept it in meticulous shape.

Eleanor was a member of a sorority group for many years and liked participating in all of their functions. She was also an active member of McKercher United Church at which she enjoyed preparing luncheons and decorating for various seasons and activities.

Eleanor treasured her friendships. She had a close circle of friends with whom she shared many experiences.

Eleanor’s family meant everything to her. She was so proud of her two nieces. She loved to shop for them when they were little and would have new outfits for them to model whenever they came to visit. Eleanor celebrated each new chapter of her nieces’ lives from their education to marriage to being a great-auntie to their boys.

Eleanor passed away peacefully in her home with her family surrounding her. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Ella, and her stepmother Helen. Eleanor is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Roy; nieces, Vanessa (Brian) and Krista (Darren); and 4 great-nephews Layne, Cole, Aidan and Connor.

Eleanor’s family is forever grateful for the compassionate care team who made it possible for her to remain in the comfort of her home. Thank you to the caring doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and caregivers who supported her.

A small service, with invited guests, celebrating Eleanor’s life was held at the Elrose United Church on July 29th, 2021.
