Elizabeth "Betty" Joyce CAMPBELL

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Joyce Campbell (née Alexander) of Elrose. Betty passed away peacefully at the Elrose Health Centre on March 13, 2020 at the age of 87 years.

Betty was born in Lucky Lake on September 15, 1932 to Jack and Elsie Alexander. When Elsie passed away in 1944, Betty was raised by her grandparents Viktor & Aliina Oja who farmed in the Gopher Hill district just south of Dinsmore.

After graduation, she taught school at Gopher Hill for the 1950 – 1951 school year. Betty married Sandy Campbell in 1951 and moved to the family farm near Elrose. Many hours were spent cleaning the cream separator, raising chickens, washing eggs, gardening, baking and cooking for the harvest crews. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her family and costumes for the figure skaters. Betty was a chauffeur for her children so they could participate in various activities; she even obtained her bus drivers’ license so she could drive the band members around when Lorna joined the Eston Elrose School Band. She also drove the grain trucks and the combine during harvest.

One of her favorite activities was square dancing; she and Sandy travelled with the square dancers to places such as Hawaii, Florida, California, Tennessee and Alaska.

Betty was an active member of the Elrose United Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in United Church Women activities.

Betty is survived by her children Ken Campbell (Elaine), Beth Campbell (Doug Carlson), Duncan Campbell (Louise), Tena Stewart (Dale) and Lorna Campbell; grandchildren Janice Irwin (Shawn), Neil Campbell (Debra), Heather Hubbard (Bobby), Russell Campbell (Katherine), Christy Carson (Trevor), Lisa Johnstone, John Johnstone, Karla Ilott (Trent), Nadine MacDonald (Dane), Ryan Campbell (Jena), Danielle Carmichael (Stuart), Natasha Phillips (Matthew), Jeffrey Stewart (LeRae Faulkner), Elise Thompson (Philip) and Andrea Pietila (Ben) along with 27 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sandy (Lorne) Campbell, parents Jack and Elsie Alexander and grandchildren Jason Johnstone and Diana Campbell.

A Family Graveside Service was held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Elrose Cemetery with Mr. Jim MacNaughton officiating. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Betty's family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at the Elrose Health Center for taking such great care of her while she was there.
