Emily Rose Brown passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022 at age of 88.
Emily was born in Rosetown Union Hospital on November 1, 1933. She was the oldest of the three children born to John and Antonia Dasiuk. She attended elementary school in Sovereign and completed high school in Milden. Emily continued her education at City Hospital at the School of Nursing. During the time, she met Harold at a barn dance in Bounty. After Emily’s nursing graduation in 1955, Harold and Emily married in Milden on July 7, 1956. After they married, they moved to Zealandia to a house built by her father and husband Harold. Emily began working at the Milden Hospital. With five kids at home her priorities changed which resulted in a casual nursing schedule at the Rosetown Union Hospital. Emily and Harold also farmed while raising five children.
Emily was known to drive the machinery, coordinate the kids, make and deliver the meals. Some of the best times were the 4 course meals she hosted in the field for all. Emily was a woman of grace and courage. Her quiet kindness was an asset in her nursing career and family life. Emily was also known for her beautiful wardrobe that coordinated with her classy personality. Her talent for sewing fashionable attire for herself and her family was not only a necessity but also a creative passion. Education was a priority for Emily as she encouraged all of her children to attend post-secondary education.
Emily herself could be found among the University of Saskatchewan students auditing classes. This often resulted in her travelling with the class to Europe in order to experience their culture. Following Harold’s passing in 1999, Emily became our “Mother the Globe Trotter”. Her passport stamps included India, Prague, China, Alaska, Africa, New Zealand and numerous others. Always active Emily was an avid gardener, cross country skier, hiker, swimmer and loved her walks. Emily’s community involvement included 18 years on the Zealandia Town Council and as an enthusiastic reader, she also served on the Rosetown Library Executive. In addition, Emily volunteered for every possible school or recreational activity her kids were involved in.
Emily will be lovingly remembered by her children and their families; son Jordy (Karen) and their family, Kristin (Teneal) and daughters Lauren and Cael, Kent and daughter Maisy; son Tim (Kim) and their daughter Brittney (Chris) and son Nixon; son Jamie (Carrie); daughter Cindy (Ray) and their family, Nic (Paige) and daughters Lacey and Haley, Lance (Emily) and Alexei (Tayler); son Allison (Carrie) and their family Payton and Riland; her brothers: Slavek (Margaret) and Joe (Helene) and numerous nieces and nephews. Emily was predeceased by her parents John and Antonina, aunt Anna Vrana (Tony) and her husband Harold.
