Ernest "Ernie" ERICKSON Obituary

It is with sadness the family of Ernest "Ernie" Erickson, beloved husband of Marlene, announce his passing on December 16, 2020 at the Rose Villa at the age of 84 years.

Ernie was born September 3, 1936 at Wadena, SK. He attended Wolverton school near Wadena while living on the family farm. After completing school, he moved to British Columbia where he obtained employment at a saw mill and a short time later, moved to Thompson, MB where he worked in a mine before coming home and reacquainting himself with Marlene Messenger who would become his wife on February 24, 1962. They settled in Wiseton where Ernie worked on a farm and at Meyer’s Garage. In January 1963, they moved to Rosetown where Ernie worked for Loken Motors, Conlin’s, Co-op Implements and finally All West Sales where he remained until retirement.

Ernie loved to garden and he was really good at it, he enjoyed competing with his mother-in-law Mary Messenger to see who had the best garden. He enjoyed camping with family and friends, painting pictures of horses and landscapes as well as doodle, he also enjoyed playing cards, backgammon, the marble game and Aggravation. Bowling, fishing, golfing, skating and curling were some of the past times he enjoyed - while golfing one time, Ernie got a hole in one! He was creative and enjoyed building toy high chairs, cribs for his grandchildren and bird houses with his grandchildren, he was very patient and would teach anyone that wanted to learn - a man of many trades. Ernie was fun loving, honest, humble, caring, genuine, mischievous, a hard worker, a devoted, loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa and will be deeply missed.

Ernie is survived by his devoted wife Marlene; children Janice (Rick) and Kory (Geoff); grandchildren Jessie, Ashley and Syanne; great-grandson Mason; sister-in-law Mina Messenger as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Daisy, siblings William (Grace), Bob (Agnes & Wanda), Evelyn (Tom), Doris (Bert & Duncan), Charlie, Alvin (Sharon) and Agnes (Earl), niece Lorna, nephew Lorrie-Dean, parents-in-law Alfred and Mary, brothers-in-law Amol and Harold and sister-in-law Joan (Charles & Harvey).
