Fern Lois (Edington) REED

Fern Reed passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024 at the age of 93.

Fern was born on the family farm at Wiseton, the youngest surviving child of Tom and Jean Edington.  She attended school in Wiseton and after completing grade 10, worked for Mac and Dolores McDonald at the store in Wiseton.  She married Wilfred December 16, 1952, and together they ran a mixed farming operation on the Reed homestead at Elrose.  They raised a family of four boys. 

Through the years Fern was a member of the Hughton Homemakers, the Hughton Haylofters Square Dance Club, the Hughton Little Stinker Card Club, and the Elrose Golden Age Club.  She enjoyed her garden, knitting, crocheting, quilting, reading, playing cards, and watching curling on tv. 

Wilfred and Fern retired to Elrose in January 1993 – the first residents at Sunshine Manor where Fern lived for 31 years until her passing.  Many hours were spent doing puzzles and playing games with family, friends and other Manor residents.  How special it was that one of her dearest school chums, Shirley Brown came to live across the hall. 

Fern capably embraced the role of “mother to all boys” by welcoming pets from a variety of animal species – snakes, mice, gerbils, owls, partridge and pigeons, etc.  She will always be remembered for her cheery disposition, her quick wit and an appropriate anecdote for any situation.  Contentment was one of her greatest qualities.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy.    

Fern was predeceased by her husband Wilfred (2015) and granddaughter Alyson (2021) and is survived by sons Lorrie (Audrey) and children Crystal (Gilles) LeBlanc, Heather (Mike) Sherwin, Errin (Rebecca), Rhonda Service; Darwin (Ana Marin) and daughter Carmen (Scott Venne); Wayne (Rhonda) and children Stephanie (Josh) Olsen, Dallas Schira, Morgan (Brigetta), Daylin (Gabe) Sumners; Mark (Susanne) and children Colin, David (Melanie), Emily, Catherine, Natalie (Jayson) Romanuk, Sam, Sonya, Grace, Peter; and 29 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Come and Go will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Elrose Memorial Hall from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
