Floyd Clifford Jordheim was born on July 4, 1931 in the hospital at Tuberose, Saskatchewan. Floyd was the youngest child of Camilla and Knut Jordheim. He grew up on the farm, along with his brothers Ronald, Andrew, Sigvald, and Kenneth, and their only sister Anna, that Knut had homesteaded in 1917 in the Kyle area. Dad always talked fondly of his times spent on the farm, living in their 2-room house. Fishing, trapping, and lots of hard work filled their days. Dad attended school at Horse Butte School, 3 1/2 miles away. He’d laugh that when he was small, sometimes his brother Andrew would piggyback him for the journey. He later had a bicycle which made the trip an easy one in the months without snow. Although Dad admitted his grades were quite good, he decided at 16 to leave school in 1947 and start working as a Hired Hand at what he truly loved - farming. His first job was working with Magnus Strom to get the harvest done because Magnus’s parents had taken a trip to Norway. He then spent the next few years helping his Dad in the summers and looking after Henry Hesla’s cattle in the winters.
Dad married Mom, Shirley Caldwell, on October 21, 1955. They rented Jackie and Oscar Strom’s farmhouse those first couple years. While there, their first son Laine was born on August 30, 1957. When Knut and Camilla decided to retire and move to Swift Current, SK, in 1958, Mom and Dad bought and moved to the “home place”. Next, their son Gerald was born in 1962.
A farmer’s life is filled with hard work, but there was time made for fun too. Family gatherings, evening visits with neighbours, dances at the Elks Hall, visitors that were always invited inside for a cup of coffee, and far too few afternoons where Dad would go down to the river and quietly fish.
Mom passed away on October 10, 1998. Dad continued to farm, eventually handing over “some of the reigns” to his son Laine. Dad remained fiercely independent and stated that he hoped he could die on the farm in his own bed. God gave him that final wish and he passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025 in his bed, on the farm where he had lived his life, at 94 years of age, surrounded by family and love.
Floyd Jordheim was predeceased by his parents, Knut and Camilla Jordheim, brothers Ronald, Andrew, Sigvald (Ruby), and Kenneth (Viola), sister Anna (Jim), and Floyd’s loving wife Shirley.
Left to cherish his memory are sons Laine (Sheila) and Gerald (Jacquie), grandchildren Tracie (Kevin), Kristopher (Tammy), Braydon, Victoria (Tim), and Ziandra. Great grandchildren Brody, Kaya, Jordan, Gabriel, Zola, Zuri, and Caden. Also, his sister-in-law Margaret (Andrew), and several nieces and nephews whom he felt very close to.
Dad has asked that his ashes be buried next to Mom at Horse Butte Cemetery with immediate family present. At his request, there won’t be a service.
