It is with sadness the family of Franklin “Grant” Sedgwick announce his passing on April 17, 2023 at the Rosetown & District Health Centre at the age of 89 years.

Grant was born in Elrose on November 3, 1933. He was the second son and fourth of five children of Norman and Rebecca Sedgwick. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Elrose in the Chipperfield/Greenan district. He attended school at Aird which was located one mile west of the farm. After completing grade ten, he moved on to high school in Elrose taking grades eleven and twelve. He graduated in 1952. His sister Ethel was teaching in Elrose at that time and they boarded together with a local family. After finishing school, Grant began raising cattle with Norman and helping him and Gordon with the farming. Grant purchased his first quarter section in 1961 and farmed full time until 2013. He then began gradually renting the land to neighbors. As of 2022, he was still farming 180 acres. Grant met Phyllis Felker in the summer of 1968, Phyllis was from Wiseton and teaching school in Delisle. They were married on November 30, 1968. They moved into their new home in December 1969. Two sons followed, Kelly in December 1970 and Kevin in July 1973. Grant and Phyllis lived on the farm until the fall of 2015 when they moved to their condo in Rosetown.

Grant was an active member of the National Farmers Union for many years. He was secretary of the Wartime SK Wheat Pool committee for 17 years, then was added on to the Plato committee. He was an avid fastball player, first with Chipperfield then with Greenan. His other community involvement included the Wartime Hall Board, Greenan Community Club and the Fairview PFRA Committee.
