We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Rosetown Location
The family and friends of Gordon Larry Rysavy are deeply saddened by his sudden passing. He had a heart attack in his sleep on February 28, 2021 at the age of 61 that took his life.
Gord arrived November 21, 1959 at the Outlook Union Hospital, born to Walter and Lois Rysavy. Gord was the youngest of three children and his parents were so delighted to finally have their son. The family lived in Broderick until 1963 until moving to Rosetown where Gord received his education. He was employed by Dirk’s IGA and worked there until 1980 when he entered the broadcasting field. He worked as a DJ for radio stations in Rosetown, Swift Current and North Battleford - his radio name was ‘Gord Stevens’. In 1984, Gord moved back to Rosetown to work at the Motor Inn and do janitorial work. His final job was Building Operator for the Department of Highways for 18 years.
His hobbies included playing and watching all sports, but his favourite was hockey. He traveled all over the province to watch various games and enjoyed a couple of trips on the fan bus with teams in the WHL. He was a ‘techy’ person and enjoyed TV’s, VCR’s, tape decks, satellite dishes, iPads and computers. Gord was a friendly, kind person with a wonderful sense of humour. He had a hearty laugh and loved to converse with anyone. He was very thoughtful and loved his family and extended family. He always remembered special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries with a card or a phone call. He belonged to Compassionate Friends and various Bible study groups and he enjoyed attending church and growing in his walk with the Lord.
Gord was blessed to have a special lady friend in his life, Brenda Lee Fischer, who has been a part of his life for six years. He is a ‘father figure’ to Brenda Lee’s children Elise (Dallas) And Nolan (Daryl) and ‘grandfather figure’ to Marshall, Maddison, Morgan and grand-godchild Dallas. He is also survived by his sisters Caroline ‘Kay’ McCuaig (Allen) of Eastend SK and Audrey Undershute (Garnet) of Medicine Hat AB, lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews Jill Jahnke (Mat) of Swift Current, Chet McCuaig (Crystal) and their children Seth, Ryker and Elliot of Eastend, Jeremy (Rachelle) Undershute and their children Austin and Brooklyn of Tilley, AB, Brad (Laura) Undershute and their children Xavier, Nixon, Piper and Peyton of Medicine Hat AB, and Kevin Undershute of Edmonton AB. He was predeceased by his parents Walter Rysavy in December 1999 and Lois Rysavy in April 2009.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service was held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. A recording of the service will be posted here in the next few days.
