Gregory Rea Martin, age 76, of Herschel, SK passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 1st, 2024, with loving family by his side.
Greg was born to parents Rea and Margery Martin on May 31st, 1948 in Rosetown. He attended school in Rosetown and graduated from High School. He then went on to enroll in the School of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan and received his Diploma. His love of the family farm led him to make the Martin homestead his own and in 1974 he married Karen L. (Tweten); together they raised four children. Greg was a proud third generation farmer; he worked hard to continue the family farm. His love of the land was evident, and he contributed greatly to his family, extended family and community. Greg enjoyed flying, taking short trips to check crops and go for visits with friends. He also enjoyed curling, skiing with his children, baseball and travel.
Greg is survived by his wife Janet Mair (Beckman) of Biggar, SK, her three children Roberta, Carla, George, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild by whom he will be sorely missed. Greg and Janet enjoyed dancing together, going to the lake and travelling to the US and Europe.
Greg is survived by his four children and eleven grandchildren that will never forget their caring, hard working and dedicated father. His eldest, Tara (Victor) Gatnicki, second daughter Amelia Martin, his son Lee (Janay) Martin, his youngest daughter Breanne (Aakash) Martin-Bhatt. He is also survived by their mother Karen L. Martin.
He was predeceased by Karen F. Martin (James). He is survived by her four children, Tim, Tammy, BJ, Johnny, and fifteen grandchildren whom he spent many enjoyable years with working on the farm, vacationing and square-dancing.
Greg was predeceased by his loving parents Rea and Margery Martin and son-in law Rene Perreault. Greg is survived by his adoring sister Lynn Hollick who was ever present in his life. Greg was blessed as well with numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces that brightened his life and held a special place in his heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 6th, 2024 at 12:00pm in the Herschel Community Hall. Please join the family for lunch and music provided by Greg’s favourite band and fellow square-dance enthusiast Leon Ochs.
