Helen Irene (Stanley) HANLEY

It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Irene Hanley (née Stanley) announce her passing on July 30, 2021 at the age of 97 years.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Shirley Ironside (Ken) of Rosetown, Ken Hanley (Cheryl) of High River, Donald Hanley (Brenda) of Zealandia, Steven Hanley of Zealandia and Dale Hanley (Denise) of Kindersley. She was so proud of her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Rick Ironside (Carly), Avery (Bailey), Bennett and Tate; Cheryl Fenrich (Jason), Jorja and Kipton; Michelle Doyle (Sean), Deborah Kies (Richard); Shannon Marie (Jean), Patrick and Eric; Adam Hanley (Debbi), Taylor and Rylan and Janaya Hanley (Bill). Helen is survived by sisters Margaret Duncan and Elaine Allen, also by Terry Hanley and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1997, her parents William and Ethyl Stanley and step-mother Emma Day, sisters Edith (Russel) Phillips, Gladys (Hans) Potratz, Grace (Jack) Hipkin and Marion (Bob) Jones, brothers George (Betty) (Evelyn) Stanley and Ed (Bernice) Stanley, step-sisters Dorothea (Norman) Demers and Shirley McDonald, step-brother Earle Way, brothers-in-law Don Duncan and Bob Allen as well as Alex (Ada) Hanley, Sandy Hanley, Howard (Dorothy) Hanley and Bob Hanley, sisters-in-law Hyacinthe (Charlie) Ritchie, Helen (Gerry) Gilles and Alice (Lorne) Stevens.

Helen was born in the Rosetown Hospital in 1924, one of nine children. She attended Hillside School. She married Gordon Hanley on October 31, 1943 and they lived on the farm at Zealandia raising their five children. She enjoyed gardening, taking meals to the field and watching her children take pride in the farm. Helen was an avid curler, a member of the Zealandia Royal Purple and enjoyed playing bingo. They were fortunate to spend 37 winters in Indio, California where they enjoyed golfing, the sunshine and making long-lasting friendships.

Thanks to all the great care she received from the Elrose Health Centre, she mentioned not everyone got to stay at a five-star, also, thanks to Dr. Ernst for his years of health care.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Shanidar Funeral Home, Rosetown, SK. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Elrose Health Centre Auxiliary, P.O. Box 593, Elrose, SK, S0L 2V0.
