Helen WIEBE Obituary

It is with sadness the family of Helen Wiebe announce her passing on May 26, 2025 at the Rosetown and District Health Center at the age of 91 years.

Helen was born on May 4, 1934 in Reinland, SK. She was the 13th of 15 surviving children. When still an infant, the family moved to the Lizard Lake area of Saskatchewan. She attended elementary school in one-room schools; Lizard Lake School and Wilson Lake School in turn. Before she could finish, the family moved to Chihuahua, Mexico and then Durango, Mexico. There she worked as a farm hand for the Wiebe family where she met her future husband, Peter. In 1954 they moved to Saskatchewan, married and settled in Rosetown. She had made a point of learning how to cook all of the favorite foods that Peter's mother had cooked. Helen worked as a kitchen/housekeeping aide at the hospital until she had her children. The family moved to the farm where she always pitched in doing whatever was necessary to keep the farm operating. She had a true servant heart, always being the first to jump when there was work to be done. She always had food ready for guests, whether it was cookies or a full meal. They retired to a home in Rosetown where they were still residing until her passing. She belonged to the Glen Payne Ladies Club (now disbanded) of which she was the last survivor. Her faith in Jesus Christ was important to her. As a child she had to memorize the Mennonite catechism in a language (High German) that she did not understand. However, she never looked back or wavered. She did not speak much about her beliefs, but she lived them. A true enthusiast, Helen found joy in her garden, tending to her beloved geraniums and vibrant petunias. Her hands were rarely still, as she also delighted in assembling jigsaw puzzles, knitting countless afghans and cozy slippers and enjoying lively card games with friends. Above all, she cherished caring for children and her grandson.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Peter Wiebe, daughter Beverly Arnold, son Brian Wiebe, grandson Richard Arnold, sister-in-law June Fehr, brother-in-law John Penner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Anna (nee Dyck) Fehr, siblings Jacob, Henry, Anna (Stan Mills & George Walker), Sarah (John) Tozer, Wilhelm “Bill”, Jacob (Catherine & Elizabeth), Elizabeth “Betty” (Louie) Krowchenko, Marie (Gerhard) Zacharias, John, Isaac, Margaretha (Lyle) Pysher, Peter, David (Agatha), George (Louise) and Katherine “Tootes” Penner as well as all of her in-laws.

A public visitation was held on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Shanidar Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown Alliance Church.
