Howard was predeceased by his mother Hilda Janet Hnatiw (2001) and his father Ernie Orest Hnatiw (2012).

Howard is survived by his older half brother Jon Prins of Abbotsford, BC and his younger brother Kevin Richard Hnatiw of Calgary, Alberta.
