Jane "Jean" Catherine HUGHES

Jane “Jean” Catherine Hughes (Deverou) walked into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday March 4, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born to Roy and Kate Deverou August 25, 1930 at home near Broderick and was the 4th born of 5 girls. Jean grew up on the family farm and went to school in Broderick and Saskatoon. She received her degree in Education at the U of S. At university she met the love of her life—Bill Hughes. They were married in October 1955 and they were blessed with 7 children who adored her.

Jean was a role model for her children. She had a zest for life, was filled with laughter, saw beauty in simple things, and her faith in God was inspirational. She was an active member of the community and the CWL.

She was predeceased by her parents Kate and Roy, husband Bill, sisters Alvina and Marie, and her brother-in-law Jack. Jean will be sadly missed by her loving family: Michael (Cheryl), Mark (Josie), Kiera (Jordan), Jessa (Jase) and Alora (Michael); Robert (Kawori), Tida, Luka, Miu; David (Susan), Pearl; Kathy (Leo), Joel, Mairi (Saahil), and Laura; Monica (Morris), Linden (Gillian), Bergen, Karlen (Keely); Sheleigh (Duane), Kiana (Theo), Jonah, Parker; Mary (Rob), Morgan (Jonathan), Jordyn (Brodie), Matt (Lacey), Coulson, Cooper, and Cadence. She will also be remembered by her sisters Louise and Dorothy, her sister-in-law Irene, her brother-in-law Don Kent, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom had a special gift for sharing her heart in the most amazing ways. For her, acts of kindness were never about being recognized, but were simply a reflection of the generous spirit that guided her in everything she did. There are many virtues that Jean represented; she was selfless, humble, and showed her strength in everything she encountered. She lived and practiced her belief that we are all equal in the eyes of God.  “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed” – Maya Angelou

Vigil of Prayer was held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Eston, SK. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Emmanuel Azike, OP celebrating.
