Janey Louise JOHNSON

Janey Louise (Backlund) Johnson passed away peacefully March 23, 2023 at Rose Villa at the age of 72 with a friend by her side. Janey was born June 9th 1950 at Dodsland, Sask. She was the only child born to Eric and Jean Backlund. (Her mother was a war-bride from Scotland and father was a soldier from Finland.)

She spent her early childhood years living in various locations in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Her family eventually settled in Dodsland where Janey attended  elementary school and later completed high school in Plenty.

As a child she enjoyed exploring nature, looking for that first crocus of the spring and learning to read. Reading became a life long passion that she enjoyed. After graduation she moved to Saskatoon where she took a secretarial course. She continued her education over the years by taking computer classes, upgrading her secretarial skills, food service management course at Kelsey and credited classes in crisis counselling through the University of Regina.

Janey worked at various occupations over the years. She thoroughly enjoyed her time working at Dodsland and Saskatoon public libraries before becoming the librarian in Rosetown. While living in Prince Albert she was secretary for Native Court Outreach, clerk typist for Native Court Work Service and occasional house Mother at the Y.W.C.A. She spent many years working in the food sector and also enjoyed babysitting.

She spent her spare time enjoying the outdoors, planting flowers and her garden and caring for cats. Janey spent many hours donating her time to the Rosetown United Church. She was involved in the choir,  volunteered in the office as well as on committees.

In later years Janey could often been seen briskly walking around town with her walker come rain or shine. As physical challenges occurred Janey moved to Lion's Manor and then to Rose Villa. She enjoyed craft time at Rose Villa along with Friday bingo. Her love of reading continued.

Janey was predeceased by her parents Jean and Eric Backlund. As Janey was a only child she had no living family members in Canada.

Janey’s friends wish to thank her Rose Villa family for all the care and kindness shown to her. Thank you to Rev. Allan Gairns and the Rosetown United Church for all their caring and support.

Janey's Celebration of Life Service was held at Rosetown United Church on March 27, 2023 at 10am. Her church family and friends in attendance.
