Jean Amelia Millward (nee Beattie) was born February 28, 1928 at Anerly, Saskatchewan in the RM of Fertile Valley. She was the 4th child and 3rd daughter born to Walter (Watt) Stewart Beattie and Janet Duncan. Jean was raised on the farm at NE Sec 16-Rge 10-Twp 27 W2nd and attended Invicta School #3378. She married Gordon Millward of Flaxcombe on October 9, 1948 in Saskatoon and they began their life together in Eston. Two daughters, Jo-Anne and Karen were born in Eston. In 1951, Jean and Gordon moved to Kyle, where Gordon was employed as a mechanic with Clark’s Garage. A third daughter, Connie, was born in Kyle. Jean enjoyed sports and was an avid ball player and curler. Many of her former team-mates remember her hitting prowess, despite being “such a small thing”. Jean was a long-time employee of the Kyle-White Bear Union Hospital, where she worked as a cook. Jean was a life member of the Royal Purple and the Legion. Following Gordon’s passing in 1985, Jean moved to Southview Apartments where she lived until 2010. Jean was very involved at the museum in Kyle and volunteered countless hours to sort and catalog many of the items.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Gordon, father, mother, six brothers and sisters and daughters Jo-Anne Béasse (Jay) and Connie Houston (Russel). She is survived by her daughter Karen Howell (Gary) of Calgary, along with seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life Come and Go will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Kyle Elks Hall.
